We have some neighbors, who on our first encounter, asked us to get our trees chopped down. I'm not joking. We finally hired a monkey, a mean a very limber, small man, to chop them down. Six of them.
It was really fun to see just how high this guy could climb. He limbed the trees all the way to the top!

One of the trees that we had chopped down was not next to the neighbor who wanted all of our trees down. And, do you mind me telling you? Trees getting cut down are expensive! But this one tree had been topped (super ugly to have no top on a tree!) and was covered almost to the blunt top of the tree in some pretty gnarly ivy. I thought it might be a little bit unhealthy, but didn't really want to spend the extra money to get it cut down.
Happily, it was super unhealthy and I feel very good about losing that ugly tree, too.
Today we ventured out into our backyard. It no longer looks like a little piece of forest in the middle of Monroe. I almost cried. So baren. And we are left with all of these rounds and all of my pretty bushes and raspberries and all sorts of things have been completely demolished.
But the rounds are sure fun to play on.
And they'll make great fire wood in another year.

They are expensive! We have a big tree in our front yard that I really want to come down because I just know one of these days it's going to come down on our house but it's going to be SO expensive to do it.
I would have cried a little too. I do so love trees, but imagine all sunlight that will be there now :)
How sad! I love the pictures of the girls on the stumps!
on to your edible garden! horah!...and no worries...nature will reclaim your backyard come spring
