I was feeling really domestic yesterday, or maybe I just didn't want my nice outfit kidprinted before I went shopping with Lindsey, either way, I put on this adorable apron, and in the pocket was a collection of pioneer pennies, or little wooden pennies used to buy food and games for Pioneer Day Celebrating.
Until recently, (like, since I've been married) I had never heard of Pioneer Day. Perhaps it's because I didn't grow up in a traditional Mormon home. It's a fun celebration celebrating the Mormon trek to the Salt Lake Valley, and I think it's a perfectly plausible excuse to don an apron and bonnet and have lots of fun. Any excuse to look a little silly is a good one.
Luckily, I was in good company, although Grandma apparently forgot her bonnet. I know she has one.
We had such a great time learning traditional pioneer games and activities including wheat grinding, gold panning, washing clothes with a washboard and lots more fun! And while we worked like a pioneer, we earned money for things like food.
And wrestling...
James didn't feel like joining in on the pioneer costuming, he's been celebrating the sun a lot this summer, and amazing fall, too.

fun catching up on your cute family! Penny
Such cute little girls in their bonnets!
Maybe I was born in the wrong century entirely but I think the pioneer look is cute! :-P
And I'd trade ((most)) modern technology for the simpler, homesteader's life.
Reminds me of Holly Hobby. Remember that doll?
