I've been wondering if my kids might be hobbits lately. They've been asking for second breakfast... And third breakfast. And my husband is a little on the short side... and his feet are a bit hairy (but I guess that is also a somewhat manly sort of thing, me and the girls lack the hairy feet. And just to clarify, James's feet are not as a hairy as a movie hobbit.)
But I've figured it out. It's the cereal! Lately, my breakfast has been a steady granola diet. But I decided to eat cereal with the girls the other day. Cereal of choice was Corn Pops. One of my childhood favorites. But a bowl with the same portion of Corn Pops, is about as filling as a quarter of the portion of granola.
I know. I know. Everyone knows Corn Pops aren't healthy. But it was like one of those angels-singing-in-the-background sort of epiphanies for me.
No more cereal for us.
We are now an all granola family.
And check out the pictures. The girls love to make granola. We use an old Tunnell Family recipe. You can find it at Grandma Linda's House. And when you stop by for this remarkable granola recipe that will fill you and your kids up until lunch time, look around. Linda has one of the sweetest blogs I've ever read. And I'm not just sayin' that.
Oh, and the great thing about granola is that it is so forgiving! We like a little more oats to flour ratio. And we grind our own white wheat. It tastes the best. Sometimes I add a little molasses. And we go crazy with the nuts! And you can totally forget about it for an hour... Believe me. I do it every time. You just might have to soak it in your milk a little longer.
Maybe I'll donate the rest of our cereal to the food bank. So much for all those good sales!

Yum. I love my Mom's granola...but I've never made it! You're so much more Tunnelly than me!
Cereal is totally useless, and it's super messy when my kids eat it. We like biscuits, spam and eggs for breakfast....or oatmeal...or cinnamon rolls! :)
I totally agree...I'm a granola fan, too. I have an adult living with me who would completely freak if I got rid of his cereal....so maybe I should start involving th kids in granola-making....great idea!
