blankie-fie

Britton has a blankie-fie (not sure if I've mentioned it before). And what is a blankie-fie, you might ask? Well, a blankie and a pacifier, of course. She says it as if her blankie and her pacifier were one object, some how connected. Because she uses them together. Fie in mouth, blankie rubbing the nose.

But her pacifier recently gave her a pretty bad sore next to her mouth, and we'd been discussing how to get rid of the fie for quite a while.

So Britton went to Target and bought a doll with her pacifiers. The checker put the fies in the special fie register, and then we went home and showed off the new baby.

Britton is sure resourceful. When bedtime came around, she was heartbroken. She didn't want her doll anymore. It was so hard to see her sincerely distressed, crying and saying she didn't want anymore birthdays (somehow she connects birthdays with losing her fie). When she finally came to terms she just started sucking on her fingers instead. She experimented quite a bit, thumb pinkie... Now she is an index girl.

See what we did? We've got a finger sucker now! What can we do about that?

It is definitely harder to get rid of the fingers. We couldn't talk Sofia into giving up her thumb until she was 5, so good luck. We told lots of horror stories about how crazy her teeth were going to be.

Good luck! My seven year old still has a blanky and STILL sucks her thumb....

I sucked my thumb up until I went to kindergarten. My parents told me I couldn't go to school until I stopped sucking it and learned how to tie my shoes. I quit pretty quickly after that. I've heard of some people putting nasty tasting stuff on their kids fingers so they will stop sucking.

I sucked my index finger too! Upsidedown with my other fingers on my nose... I was a stubborn little kid too, nothing my mom tried would work. She even bought this nasty tasting nail stuff that was supposed to deter me... I muscled through it... I figured out if I sucked on it hard enough and long enough the yucky ear waxy flavor disappeared... I turned out ok... other than developing a lisp caused by "tongue thrusting" (a direct consequence of finger sucking) and having to have a few years of expensive speech therapy... :) Good luck with that... (my that was a long reply, sorry!)

I got Brayden off the Binkie too. I had to cut the tips off and after 2 or 3 days of only getting the "Broken ones" He doesnt even want them anymore. He only sucks on his figures if he is teething other wise he doesn't. Since they are already taken away I am not sure if it would work to give them back and try a different method but thats all I have
