Actually we love our chickens. They even let us pet them! John chases them around and isn't happy without a little 'chicky' time.
But they have some bad habits.
Never mind the mess, do you see that chicken in my house? Their favorite thing to do is sneak in to my laundry room!
James built them this nice cozy pen with a very large run, but do you see any chickens in there? Nope, they like to come visit us. They don't even try to run out of our yard anymore, they just want to be close to the house, and poop on our porch! And it makes it very hard to find their eggs. Because the started laying...

I checked very carefully for spiders before climbing under there,
And just when I crawled out, the gnarliest spider I have ever seen crawled right from under my knees.
Good thing we love them!
